Receiving a cancer diagnosis is one of those surreal experiences that can feel like a terrible dream. It is important to take time to understand your diagnosis, potential causes, and treatment options. When it comes to second opinions in conventional oncology, they rarely exist. Cancer treatments are determined at the national level by a group of researchers who release yearly the protocol for treating different types of cancers. My surgeon told me that. You may prefer the bedside manner of one oncologist or surgeon to another, however you will receive the same treatment plan wherever you go as doctors are legally bound to these guidelines. To get a unique second opinion, you will need to go outside of the bounds of traditional oncology. Finding a well-qualified alternative provider can be challenging. Here is a helpful resource from Believe Big:

My acupuncturist advised me not to do any healing treatments that didn't feel right to me. That was great advice. Our body can heal if given the right tools. Cancer has root causes. Think of it as detective work aligned with finding the keys to your optimum health. Take your time and find ways to maintain inner peace. It can take many months to discover a root causes and natural healing also takes time.
Ultimately, your body is your body and your intution will take you where you need to go. That may or may not include conventional and/ or natural treatments- it all depends on the resources that you discover and trust. Choose what resonates and take steps forward with courage. You are loved.

Mistletoe is a powerful therapy that has been used for over 100 years, primarily in Europe. It's efficacy is well documented and is typically covered by insurance overseas and is being studied at Johns Hopkins University. It is helpful to see a professional in person who can treat you in the office and also provide you with injections to do at home. The Humanizing Medicine Clinic in Atlanta, where I went, has the additional benefit of being in short distance to the Hope Cancer Lodge which offers lovely and free lodging for those seeking treatment.

Good question! I have spent over $20,000 dollars this year on conventional and alternative treatments plus many supplements I explored. Now I try to keep a spending budget of about $500/ month and getting to be much less! In the beginning, I had to spend much more.
First of all, what is your health insurance deductible? Out of pocket maximum? Combined, mine was about $8k for conventional treatments. I spent about all of that and it covered my mammograms, ultrasound, biopsy, MRI, port installation and removal. If I had gotten chemo, readiation, etc... that would basically have been 'free.' New year, new $8k but now most of my expenses are out of pocket so it's not a huge deal but consider all this!
I had a gofundme, a school loan that was refunded from my master's program, a tax refund, a new job that would afford a more organic experience and a bit more income, and the generosity of family. I also believed, though challenged daily, that "everything was working out for me" (hicks)
Going to take time off work? I needed time to process and heal! If you can qualify for medicaid as an unemployed person, your expenses will be nearly nothing for conventional treatment, and you may be able to get some basic labs to boot with a limited list of primary care providers. Talk to your local health department for details.
